Independent Non-Executive Director for Leading Not-For-Profit

Community Housing Canberra (CHC), the largest not-for-profit community housing provider in the Australian Capital Territory, is looking for a Director for its Board.

About the Business


CHC is the largest not-for-profit community housing provider in the ACT. We have over twenty years’ experience in providing quality affordable housing, and provide a home today to 1310 Canberrans in 416 homes owned and rented at below market rates.

Our vision is “safe and secure homes in strong communities” and our mission is to “provide affordable homes, principally for rent, to individuals and families.”


We deliver homes for the community in various locations across Canberra and are continuously seeking to grow our impact through increasing our volume of affordable rental properties under management. Further details can be found in our Annual Report.


About the Role


CHC is seeking a suitability qualified Director for its Board, with a specific skill-set and expertise in real estate property management, and with a passion and commitment to make a difference in helping provide housing and related services to low-moderate income Canberrans.


This new appointment, along with the existing seven Directors, will ensure that the Board can provide appropriate oversight and direction to management in the planned establishment and operation of a new philanthropic real estate property management arm of CHC (based on the HomeGround model currently operating in Melbourne and Sydney).


The position will attract a remuneration of $5,000 per annum.


Skills and Experience


The successful applicant must hold an active ACT Real Estate Licence, and have demonstrated experience ideally both in the start-up and operation of a real estate property management business. The preferred applicant would also possess experience in corporate governance, preferably as a Company Director.
